vitamin C

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is the most famous of all vitamins. Vitamin C is essential for a functioning immune system. The immune system is particularly weakened after strenuous running and other training sessions. As an antioxidant, vitamin C has a cell-protecting effect, especially in combination with vitamin E. Due to its involvement in various metabolic processes, vitamin C is also needed to maintain bones and supporting tissue. Red peppers are particularly rich in vitamin C, even more than oranges. Other excellent sources of vitamin C are kiwis, green leafy vegetables, parsley, citrus fruits, rose hips, currants and apples.
