Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is involved in two biochemical reactions in the body: the breakdown of the amino acid homocysteine and the conversion of methylmalonic acid. Put simply, vitamin B12 plays an important role in cell division, blood formation and the function of the nervous system. Vitamin B12 is abundant in most animal foods. The possible, very low occurrence in root and tuber vegetables and fermented foods such as beer, sauerkraut and fermented soy products is not sufficient to make a significant contribution to the vitamin B12 supply.
