Company History

ArthroFill is the result of years of research and development – driven by our founders' passion for movement, health, and science.
The roots go back to the 1970s: back then, veterinarians began using hyaluronic acid to support joints – initially in the form of injections. In the 1990s, it also entered human medicine, especially in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Since the 2000s, hyaluronic acid has also been used as a supplementary feed for sport horses.
The central question that drove our founders:
Why shouldn't hyaluronic acid also benefit humans as a dietary supplement?
Heiko Bross – raised on a sport horse farm in Schleswig-Holstein – and Dr. Henning Jüchter – from a Rhineland medical family – began researching. A groundbreaking study by Japan's Toho University in 2002 showed for the first time that orally ingested hyaluronic acid can even reach deep skin layers.
From this insight, our vision was born:
To develop products that help the body strengthen its natural ability to retain water – for more balance, health, and mobility.
In 2010, we founded PROCEANIS in Hamburg.
In 2012, the world's first hyaluronic acid drink was introduced.
After intensive research, ArthroFill was launched in 2014.
Today, ArthroFill inspires people who want to naturally support their joint health and actively maintain their mobility – from everyday life to competitive sports.

After four years of market research, development, and setting up production, the founders of the biotech company Proceanis have brought their dietary supplement Arthrofill to pharmacies. "It was a long, exhausting journey," says Bross (37). To be able to bring a health product like the drinking ampoules with hyaluronic acid for osteoarthritis patients to the market, patience and a lot of capital are necessary.

Two families contributed to the establishment of the biotech company Proceanis: the two sets of parents of the founders Dr. Henning Jüchter and Heiko Bross. One were doctors, the others former owners of a horse farm – both helped their sons in 2009 with market research, product development, inventory management, and customer phone support. "Without them, we probably wouldn't have made it through the first steps," recalls Heiko Bross. A small apartment in Hamburg and a warehouse at the Jüchter family home in Bergisch Gladbach are considered the cradle of the company, which has been successful for over six years with the dietary supplement Arthrofill. The joint complex ArthroFill combines hyaluronic acid with nutrients for bones, cartilage, and connective tissue. Hyaluronic acid is the main component of joint fluid; advances in biotechnology enable its absorption through food. This has already been used in equestrian sports since the late 1990s.

For example, this is what the dietary supplement producer Proceanis does. He no longer sells his two hyaluronic acid products "ArthroFill" and "Hyaluronfiller" only in pharmacies and cosmetic institutes, but since early 2016 also through his own online shop.
"By bypassing the retailers, we save their margins and can communicate directly with consumers. Their praise and suggestions for improvement help us to further develop our products."

Heiko Bross has a fondness for the Middle Kingdom: The 40-year-old managing director of the Hamburg biotech company Proceanis studied in Shanghai in 2007 and loves Chinese culture. In 2019, the medium-sized company wants to sell 100,000 bottles of its beauty drink Hyaluronfiller in the People's Republic. "To gain a foothold in China, you need helpers with local expertise," says Bross. Last year, he participated in a delegation trip organized by the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Businesses.

During a visit by a Mexican economic delegation in Bremen, SIS presented two products from the young Hamburg life-science company Proceanis to the South Americans, the dietary supplements "Hyaluronfiller" and "Arthrofill," the first for more beautiful skin, the second for healthy joints. In the German-speaking region, the winner of the Beauty Award Germany 2016 already made around 400,000 euros in sales with its products last year.

Hyaluronic acid not only cushions the wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolleté, but it is also a main component of joint fluid and, due to its viscous consistency, acts as a shock absorber and lubricant in all joint movements. Additionally, it keeps tendons and ligaments healthy and strong. When the body produces less hyaluronic acid, the hyaluronic shock absorber in the joints also thins, the natural "oil" no longer lubricates, and the joint's pressure load cannot be properly cushioned. Taking hyaluronic acid can help relieve pain and alleviate discomfort. With a hyaluronic acid treatment (e.g., Proceanis Healthcare), you effectively kill two birds with one stone and do something beneficial for both skin and joints.
